Seeking: Associate Producer for our 2011 Production

Associate Producer

About the Job

Update:We found our Associate Producer! Congratulations to Julia Davis and welcome to the family. (Note that we are no longer seeking candidates for this position, but are leaving this page up for reference.)

Kids with Guns is seeking an Associate Producer for its August 2011 production of Anna Moench’s The Pillow Book at 59E59 Theaters.

This position will provide the ideal candidate with hands-on experience in producing a new play in New York City. Production activities for The Pillow Book are already underway. The company will workshop the play throughout May, and then commence full rehearsals in late-June for an August 3 opening at 59E59 Theaters. Load-in is August 1. Load-out is August 21st and 22nd. We are also hosting a benefit event (date TBD) in July to support the production.

Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to assisting the company’s co-Artistic Directors with: coordinating casting, auditions and rehearsals; organizing logistics around the May workshop, orchestrating auction items and other activities related to the July benefit party; booking rehearsals and coordinating creative team schedules, social media marketing and communications for the production, organizing and planning creative and design team meetings, coordinating all aspects of load-in for the production (set, lighting, deliveries, pick-ups, props, load-out, etc.), managing the comp list during the production, and being present during critical milestones (auditions, certain rehearsals, the benefit, load-in, tech, certain performances, load-out, etc.) Effectively, you will be producing this play alongside the company’s co-Artistic Directors.

Experience

The successful candidate may have an education or experience in theater production, event management, or project management. A practical knowledge of social media tools for marketing is preferred. A background or education in theater is not necessary to apply.

Our company operates in a virtual office, so useful technology experience may include: Google Apps, WordPress, MadMimi, Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, Facebook, Twitter, TweetAdder, TweetDeck, etc. You’ll need your own computer. We’re Mac-based, though you don’t have to be. If you are also a designer, web developer, photographer, videographer, etc., please let us know.

Is this position right for me?

If you want to produce theater in NYC, or start your own theater company, or are looking to find a theater company and make it your home, this position might be perfect for you. If you really want to be an actor, playwright, director, etc., and you’re looking for a back door, then this is probably not a good fit.

We sincerely hope that whoever accepts this role evolves into a company member with a long-term leadership role. If you believe that producing is a creative art, and you believe that it is your art, please apply. We can’t wait to meet you!

Pay: This is a volunteer position. You will receive a stipend of $400 on or before August 22, 2011. You will probably also receive beer, food, and deep gratitude.

A clue: As we are reviewing cover letters, resumes, etc., the first things we’ll look for are: professionalism, clarity, and organization.
